The Revista Científica Sinapsis adheres to the ethical standards and publication codes of conduct, established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
The editorial committee of the Revista Científica Sinapsis is committed to high standards of ethics and good practices in the dissemination and transfer of scientific articles, with the aim of guaranteeing the firmness and scientific quality of the different works. The driving forces of the editorial board are to ensure the quality of the material that is published, to respect freedom of expression, to maintain the scholarly integrity of its content, and to issue corrections, clarifications, and apologies when necessary.
Through the journal's website (https://revistas.itsup.edu.ec/index.php/sinapsis/index), authors have access to information on the guidelines for authors and on the peer review process; documents that are regularly updated. The editors will not modify their decision on the acceptance of manuscripts, unless irregularities or extraordinary situations are detected. The Revista Científica Sinapsis magazine makes available to the evaluators a guide about what is expected of them. It is evident that the identity of the evaluators is protected at all times, guaranteeing the anonymity of the peers.
As in most scientific journals, the Revista Científica Sinapsis will guarantee that the articles are published based on their quality and suitability, and not with a view to economic or political gain. In this sense, the fact that the journal is not governed by economic interests, and defends the ideal of free access to universal and free knowledge, facilitates said independence.
Sinapsis is a publication committed to guaranteeing the quality of its content and the proper exercise of ethical practices by each of its actors. This statement, based on the Guidelines on Good Practices for Publications developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), raises a set of ethical aspects focused on each of the important elements and roles involved in the editorial process.
Ethical principles
The Revista Científica Sinapsis adheres to internationally established ethical principles for conducting research, for this reason it accepts the Declaration of Helsinki and the guidelines of The Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS). Research carried out with human beings must submit the approval document for conducting the study before its start by an ethics committee. The ethics committee that approves the development of the research must be duly authorized by local legislation in the country where the research was conducted. In the case of research studies that are considered exempt from approval by an ethics committee, the exemption letter must be submitted.
When the research includes vulnerable people such as children, pregnant women, university students, indigenous communities, among others, it will be necessary to add the consent or informed assent used during the research. This document should have been part of the requirements for approval of the research by the ethics committee, therefore, the final approved version is requested. In addition, the research must respect current legislation on research in this population regarding their participation and taking biological samples.
In the case of observational or intervention studies carried out in Ecuador, consider the ethical aspects for research in indigenous peoples and nationalities and vulnerable populations described in ministerial agreement 015 and its reform in 038 of the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador. For clinical trials where new medicines and/or medical devices are tested, review ministerial agreement 075 of the National Agency for Regulation, Control and Sanitary Surveillance Ecuador. Similar studies from other countries must obey local legislation and, when submitting your manuscripts, the electronic address of the legislation in force in that country is requested for compliance verification.

- About the plagiarism detection process.
During the editing and review processes, the reviewers and editors check and verify that the article is based on an original idea, and for this they start from the principle that it reports a low percentage of copies, which should not exceed international standards. established, which is why they will submit each article to tests, using online systems such as Plagiarism and iThenticate, in such a way that the amount of copied content does not exceed 20%, taking into account the citations and other elements that could be copied from one file to another.
It should be noted that any editor or reviewer is obliged to report evidence of copies, theft of ideas or similar situations, and the journal's management is obliged to discard the material for publication.
For this, different special services are used, such as the Turnitin system, which analyzes the texts in search of grammatical and orthotypographic coincidences, which guarantees that the works are unpublished and ensures compliance with the editorial quality standards that guarantee their own scientific production.
Likewise, Sinapsis magazine makes available to authors and reviewers, as well as to the scientific community, a set of specific tools for detecting plagiarism: Grammarly, Plagium, WriteCheck, PaperRater, Plagarisma.net, Viper Plagarism Scanner or CrossCheck. It is a set of free access and paid interfaces that monitor the originality of any manuscript and allow plagiarism to be controlled.
